What does BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) mean?

BYOK means you use your own OpenAI API key instead of paying us for AI features. You pay OpenAI directly at their rates (typically $0.002-0.06 per 1K tokens). We don't add any markup.

Why do you use BYOK instead of including AI in the price?

Transparency and cost control. With BYOK, you see exactly what AI costs and can set spending limits. If you use AI heavily, you might pay more; if rarely, you pay almost nothing.

How do I get an OpenAI API key?

Go to platform.openai.com, create an account, and generate an API key. Add a payment method. Then paste the key in WURDX Settings → AI → API Key. Takes about 2 minutes.

Is my API key stored securely?

Yes. Your API key is encrypted at rest and transmitted over HTTPS. We never log API keys or include them in error reports. You can revoke and rotate your key anytime.

Which OpenAI models can I use?

You can choose between GPT-4o (most capable) and GPT-4o-mini (faster, cheaper) in WURDX settings. We recommend GPT-4o-mini for most tasks — fast and cheap.

Can I use WURDX without AI features?

Absolutely. AI is entirely optional. Many teams use WURDX purely for multi-tab documents, collaboration, and workflow features — never touching AI.
